A Day in the Life of Archives & Special Collections:What's in the Mail Today?

Jun 19, 2012 by Leslie Fields

It's fun to receive the daily mail delivery here in Archives & Special Collections because we often receive donations by mail--some expected and others quite unexpected. Here are a few new surprise arrivals...

Yes, that's right: underwear in the mail! A Class of 1992 graduate donated several pairs of boxer shorts.

This pair from the Law Society is a special favorite of mine:

And here's a great pair for the class of 1992:

"I didn't know the MHC Archives collected underwear," you may be asking your self. Well, we don't collect underwear per se, but part of our mission as a college archives is to document student life on campus. Wonderful alumnae, such as this generous member of the Class of 1992, help us to do this through donations of personal letters, photographs, scrapbooks, and class and student organization records of all kinds, including, yes, sometimes even boxer shorts.

So come on in and visit these new arrivals! We're open all summer, Monday through Friday, 9:30am to noon and 1 to 4:30pm. (Mary will be glad to see you.)

As the proud giver of these "treasures," I am just simply delighted that my college saw the humor in my gift, as well as the humor from when they were created as fundraisers for the various clubs. I now have a 4yr old daughter, and I am dropping hints regularly about just how amazing MHC is. I hope my fellow alums will consider giving unique gifts as well, so that future generations can get a full picture of who we were, who we wanted to be, and how Ht. Holyoke helped to shape our character. If my dear Ella attends, won't she be proud to see these in Special Collections....!

Really glad to see these added! In honor of her reunion, a friend from '87 posted some of her around-the-dorm pictures last month, and boxers certainly made an appearance. Even though I *loved* mine (to pieces; not donation-worthy), I look back and say "what were we thinking??"

Mobile banking is a way for the customer to achieve banking measures on his or her cell phone or other mobile device. It is a moderately popular method of banking that fits in well with a busy, mechanically oriented lifestyle.
